Ohio to distribute $1.8 million in brownfield stimulus funds

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has given the Ohio Department of Development $1.8 million in federal stimulus money to distribute as part of the Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund Program. Grants from this program will be used to create or retain jobs to uncluttered up properties where environmental contamination is preventing the sites from being redeveloped.

The Ohio Department of Development will begin distributing the federal grant money in November, continuing over the next two years. The Urban Development Division has already provided a list of potential projects that possess been registered at Ohio’s stimulus Web site. Distinguished emphasis will be placed on historic buildings that require asbestos abatement. The interim director of the Development Department stated that these funds not only help uncluttered up contaminated sites as well as improve community health as well as quality of life, but they as well as create pleasant jobs for Ohio citizens.
