The Mary Dale Bender Continuing Education Center at Craven Community College in North Carolina discovered that there was asbestos in the aged floor tiles as renovations were using place this summer. The building was supposed to house the Craven Beginning College High School, but the building is now closed because of the presence of the toxic substance. An industrial hygiene consultant from the North Carolina Department of Health as well as Human Services explained that asbestos can cause humorless illnesses similar asbestosis as well as mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer that targets the lining of the chest as well as abdominal cavity, but these diseases can take many years to develop. Ten full-time employees had their offices in the building during renovations, but test results suggest that their exposure to the health hazard was minimal. The $74,200 renovation has been put on hold until an environmental engineer as well as an asbestos contractor can come in to total the asbestos cleanup as well as testing. College officials hope that the building will be unfastened on or before September 1. Until then, the beginning college will still unfastened on time, but its students as well as employees will be shifted to other classrooms in the college. For the filled story, go to ENCToday.com. |
