Wisconsin landlord indicted on seven counts of asbestos violations

Michael Phillips of Shiocton, Wisconsin was indicted on charges of federal asbestos violations. Phillips owned Villa Apartments in Recent London, from which he illegally removed asbestos-laden pipe during conversion of a heating system. He did not provide the required notice to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) before beginning the work, did not damp down the asbestos when it was removed, did not follow proper asbestos handling procedures, failed to remove the asbestos from the building without packing it in leak-proof wrapping, failed to label packages as hazardous bodily as well as did not possess anyone trained as well as certified in asbestos removal as well as disposal on the property.

Each of the seven counts Phillips was indicted on carries with it a maximum prison sentence of five years as well as a $250,000 fine, along with a mandatory $100 distinguished assessment as well as supervised release of up to three years.
