85-year-old school in Pennsylvania to be demolished as part of a $40 million makeover

Aliquippa School District in Pennsylvania has undergone extensive renovations to the tune of $40 million. The district used to be comprised of three school buildings, but the 85-year aged high school is empty as well as awaiting demolition. Aliquippa Elementary School will now house students from kindergarten through sixth grade, though it had formerly housed only kindergarten through fourth grade. The former middle school building will now be known as Aliquippa Junior-Senior High School, now home to grades seven through twelve.

Until the renovations are total in November or December, kindergarteners will be attending classes in six classrooms being leased from the former St. Titus School, which was closed by the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh in June.

Asbestos abatement is currently underway at the former high school building. Demolition is intended to begin after the Recent Year.

The elementary school now has a kitchen, a cafeteria, a competition-sized gymnasium, as well as a north tower that contains classroom space. The junior-senior high school now has choral as well as band rooms, a TV studio, a Not light Box Theater, a recent library/media center, SMART boards in the classrooms as well as a food court.
