Wisconsin ore dock demolition postponed

The historic ore dock in Ashland, Wisconsin will live on for one more year. Demolition work will possess to wait until next summer as contractors wait for one final permit between them, Canadian National Railway as well as the City of Ashland. Permits possess already been obtained from the Army Corps of Engineers as well as the Wisconsin Department of Common Resources. The outstanding permit will cover responsibility for damages during the razing of the ore dock.

The mayor of Ashland is concerned about asbestos as well as lead paint falling off the dock that could get into the city’s water intake. Incase the toxins do show up in the water, he wants to know how it will be dealt with as well as who will be liable for the cleanup costs. A deal should be worked out within two weeks, but the demolition work itself cannot be completed until next summer, as the spray coating that will help keep asbestos as well as paint chips from blowing away must be applied during tepid, moistureless weather.
