American Airlines employees raise over $1 million in Relay for Life

Over the final five years, American Airlines employees possess raised over $1 million by walking or running in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an overnight event held at high schools, parks as well as fairgrounds across the United States. Walking or running teams collect pledges from friends, family as well as coworkers to raise money for the American Cancer Society as well as take turns walking or running over a 24-hour period.

American Airlines earliest took part in the Relay for Life five years ago after an employee of its Fort Worth headquarters was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. In that earliest event, its employees raised over $18,000. Five years later, they possess managed to raise over $1 million for the American Cancer Society. The airline joined the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life National Corporate Program in 2006, committing to having at least 50 teams participating in Relay for Life events across the country each year. Over the final five years, nearly 3,200 American employees possess participated.
