Hillsborough County Superior Courthouse North in Manchester, Recent Hampshire is getting prepared to undergo a $17 million renovation project. Asbestos abatement will account for $2 million to $3 million of that price tag. The renovations will take 18 months, during which time the court will be temporarily relocated to Hillsborough County Superior Court South in Nashua. The Nashua courthouse can easily handle the extra volume of cases as well as 35 more staff members with a few modifications, including the addition of a wall as well as adding counters for business done by the Manchester court. The essential renovations will be carried out by bureau staff as well as costs tens of thousands of dollars, rather than millions. The biggest problem with the relocation of the Manchester court is one of logistics. There may not be enough parking to go around when both courts are held in the one location. Court officials would similar to take the entire parking lot behind the courthouse for staff, which would displace the parking spaces for jurors as well as other people doing business at the courthouse. Displaced jurors may take up parking spaces in front of local businesses, much to the chagrin of local business owners who are worried about losing potential customers. Court officials are in talks with the Nashua Transit director to discuss other options, such as using another parking lot elsewhere in the city for court parking. The move from the Manchester courthouse to the Nashua courthouse is expected to take place between Christmas as well as Recent Year’s Day. For the filled story, go to Nashua Telegraph. |
