Michael Phillips of Shiocton, Wisconsin has been charged with illegally removing asbestos while using pipe from Villa Apartments in Recent London during a heating system conversion. His trial date has been set for November 30. According to the federal indictment, Phillips is charged with violating Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules for asbestos disposal by failing to give the EPA proper notice for the asbestos work, failing to damp down the asbestos when it was removed from the pipes, handling the asbestos carelessly, removing the asbestos from the building without placing it in leak-proof wrapping, failing to label the packages as hazardous as well as not having anyone on premises who was trained in asbestos removal as well as disposal.
