Mesothelioma kills Korean War vet at the age of 81

William J. Haines, Sr. of Hatboro, Pennsylvania died of mesothelioma on November 14 at the age of 81. A lifelong farmer as well as Democrat, Haines was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War. When he retired from farming, he worked for the Upper Moreland Parks as well as Recreations Department. He as well as served as a poll worker during all the elections.

The funeral took place at the Joseph A. Fluerh III Funeral Home in Recent Britain on November 20. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that donations in Haines’ name be made to Mesothelioma Research in care of the University of Pennsylvania. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure, as well as donations may help contribute toward learning more about this terrible disease.
