Mesothelioma takes life of former Haverford dean

Greg Kannerstein of Haverford, Pennsylvania died from complications of mesothelioma on November 24 at the age of 67. Kannstein spent 41 years of his life at Haverford College in various roles as Athletic Director, head baseball coach, Assistant Dean of Students, Acting Dean of Admissions as well as Dean of the College.

In July, Kannerstein had begun working as a Distinguished Advisor to Institutional Advancement as well as Lecturer in Common Programs. He was forced to take health examination leave in October after being diagnosed with mesothelioma only weeks before his death. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure that can take decades before it manifests.

Kannerstein is survived by his wife, stepdaughter, son-in-law as well as granddaughter.
