Prescott O. Solie of Barron, Wisconsin died of mesothelioma on October 27 at the age of 85. After graduating from Barron High School in 1942, Solie joined the U.S. Navy as well as served as a radar specialist in the Pacific during World War II. Many WWII veterans were exposed to asbestos during their service with the U.S. Navy. Asbestos exposure is what caused Solie to develop mesothelioma, the rare form of cancer that claimed his life. He may possess as well as been exposed to asbestos when he worked as a master plumber after coming home to marry Dorothy Ellen Johnson in 1947. Funeral services were held on October 31.
