Asbestos whistleblower now the subject of OSHA wrongful termination investigation

Rick Solis used to work for Highlands County, Florida as a Survey Technician II. While working on the Sebring Parkway construction project, he recognized that concrete asbestos pipe was being dug up, destroyed up as well as hauled off. When he informed his superiors about the hazardous bodily, Solis claimed that the county began a cover up. After he reported them, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) conducted an investigation that found no wrongdoing on the part of the county, but Solis was laid off in beginning September.

His notice of layoff stated that he was let go due to budgetary concerns, but his attorney Daniel Perez informed the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) that his termination was a violation of anti-whistleblower retaliation provisions. OSHA is now conducting an investigation into the wrongful termination case, as well as the county was given 20 days from the date they received the complaint to respond to the allegations.
