Allegheny County, Pennsylvania ordered a task force report in 2008 to make recommendations about the county’s pioneering air pollution control program. The 27-page report was submitted to the Allegheny County Board of Health in mid-January. It recommended that the county retain the Air Bureau within the Health Department, but that it institute fundamental changes in appeals, issuing permits for pollution sources as well as air monitoring enforcement. Some county regulations are already more stringent than those set out by the state of Pennsylvania, as well as the report calls for them to be retained.
