Remediation, preservation underway in Indiana arena project

Several historical buildings in Evansville, Indiana are going to be demolished to make way for construction of the recent Downtown arena. The Evansville Redevelopment Commission has hired Architectural Renovators of Evansville to remove a tin façade, limestone window sills as well as other historical features before the structures are demolished. The contractor will receive additional money incase it can find any historical features that are worth saving from the interior of the former Libs Candy keep. Salvaged features will not be available for sale, but will be stored for expected take downtown.

Elite Environmental & Safety Services was hired to perform environmental remediation at the demolition site for $16,456. The contractor will possess to remove asbestos, lead paint, pigeon droppings as well as other contaminants before demolition can take place.

Demolition was expected to begin by the end of January. The $127.5 million arena project should be completed by the end of 2011.
