LATAG calls for epidemiological as well as toxicological studies of Libby

The Libby Area Technical Advisory Group (LATAG) was established to provide federal officials with community input as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proceeds with the massive asbestos cleanup in Libby, Montana. LATAG has expressed concerns about the proposed cleanup plans for the W.R. Grace export plant as well as screening plant, as both cancer risks as well as non-cancer risks are rocklike to quantify with any amount of confidence when looking at Libby’s particular class of asbestos. The proposed cleanup plans dont address non-cancerous asbestos-related diseases at all. LATAG wants toxicological as well as epidemiological studies done before the cleanup plans are finalized.
