Mesothelioma claims the life of U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran

James R. Berkley of Iowa City died of mesothelioma complications on January 2 at the age of 60. Berkley was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam War. Many Navy veterans, similar Berkley, were exposed to asbestos during their soldierlike service because it was used for insulation as well as fireproofing throughout the ships they served on. Mesothelioma is one of many humorless illnesses that are caused by asbestos exposure.

Berkley united Lodema Pryor in 1992. He worked as a semi salesman for Truck Country until he retired in 2007. Funeral arrangements were handled by Lensing Funeral Service. His family requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the charity of each friend’s choice.
