Sinclair fire site tested for asbestos in the air

A fire broke out at the former Sinclair meatpacking plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on December 15, as well as firefighters battled the blaze for over a week. Air samples were collected from three dissimilar locations on December 18 as well as December 21 to test for asbestos levels, as well as the tests showed that the concentration was below the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) clearance level. The Iowa Department of Common Resources hired Family Environmental Inc. to conduct the testing, as well as the samples were analyzed by Reservoirs Environmental Inc. in Denver, Colorado. Demolition crews were called in to aid firefighters in fire suppression, as well as Linn County Community Health warned people with asthma as well as other respiratory conditions to stay indoors due to the smoke.
