Phase II of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cleanup of the BoRit asbestos site in Ambler, Pennsylvania began in September. As of the end of December, the projected completion date was set for unhurried January, barring any major weather-related delays. The EPA project has placed cable-concrete mats alone the streambed as well as stream banks of the Rose Valley Creek in order to halt erosion of asbestos-containing materials into the water. The creek was widened during the project, as well as a retaining wall was constructed near the Rose Valley headwall. A large amount of debris, some of which was contaminated with asbestos, was as well as removed from the site. Now that the removal stage is nearing completion, the EPA is conducting a three-year Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study to look at current site conditions as well as potential approaches for remediation.
