The City of Minneapolis was looking into buying 14 acres of land for a park along the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway, having signed a $400,000 purchase agreement with the Scherer Lumber Yard. But an environmental study done in October discovered elevated levels of lead as well as asbestos on part of the property, as well as further investigation was deemed essential before the land could be developed. The city has the option of terminating the deal due to these findings, but park officials want to test soil from the site themselves before making any decisions. They possess cleaned up other sites in order to turn them into parks before. For the filled story, go to KSTP. |
