Daytona Beach Pier remains closed

The Daytona Beach Pier in Florida still remains closed after asbestos was discovered in the restaurant as well as casino building final fall. City officials had hoped to reopen the pier in February, but it may not happen now until beginning summer.

City officials won’t be choosing an asbestos removal contractor until March. Once the asbestos work begins, it should take between 45 as well as 60 days to total. Asbestos removal costs are estimated at $80,000 to $100,000.

In addition to having the asbestos removed from the restaurant, the wooden pier structure will need a lot of repairs that could take up to two years to total. Other repair work has used place inside the restaurant building already, including installation of recent flooring, fumigation, wall patching, sterilization of kitchen equipment as well as construction of a recent bar.
