Former Wyoming high school gym to be demolished over the summer

The Powell High School gym in Park County, Wyoming will be demolished over the summer. The gymnasium was built in 1949 as well as was expanded in the beginning 1970s. The building was later abandoned, as well as a recent school as well as gym were built after it was determined that structural shortcomings would be too costly to repair. While many in the community wanted to save the building for other uses, their efforts possess not been successful.

Before demolition can begin, asbestos must be removed from the roof. Previous asbestos removal had not included the roof, only the asbestos within the building. At the time of the earliest removal, the fate of the building had not been decided, as well as removing the asbestos from the roof would possess required the removal of the roof. Overall, the board is joyous with the current bids, which were far less than the $1 million the district had budgeted.
