Myron (Mike) D. Sommerfield of El Dorado, Kansas passed away on January 27, in San Diego, California after battling mesothelioma cancer, a form of cancer that attacks the lining around the lungs, heart or abdomen as well as is nearly always caused by exposure to asbestos. Sommerfield was born on October 1, 1949 in Hesston, Kansas. In 1965, he was baptized by Rev. Ted Roth in the Burns Mennonite Church upon confession of faith. He graduated from high school in 1967 as well as eventually went to work for U.B.S. Stock Brokers for 26 years. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pacific Heart Lung as well as Blood Institute in Los Angeles, California to help fund mesothelioma research.
