Pat Miltenberger of Marshalltown, Iowa was diagnosed with mesothelioma in September 2009. She has undergone chemotherapy as well as has been fighting the disease since diagnosed. Mesothelioma is a relatively rare cancer that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. In February, friends, family as well as community members threw a party to help raise money to cover the health examination expenses she has incurred while battling the disease. On February 14, a “Straight from Our Hearts” family party was held at the local Moose Lodge. The partygoers shared food as well as enjoyed music, a raffle as well as a silent auction. Miltenberger has worked for the Marshall County ISU Extension 4-H program for more than 20 years. The organizers of the event said that they, along with the whole community, wanted to help Miltenberger with the alike enthusiasm as well as dedication she has always shown.
