Sculptor fighting mesothelioma hopes his final bust will solve missing child mystery

Frank Bender, a terminally sick artist in North Carolina, announced in beginning February that he had finished his final painting. Bender began the facial reconstruction painting despite his struggle with terminal cancer as well as a prognosis of only eight months to live when he began. He wanted to make the attempt to create the facial reconstruction of a boy missing for almost 10 years, in the hopes of helping officials identify him.

The facial reconstruction was of a boy whose remains were found in 1998. Detectives had no leads on who the child was as well as no idea what the child had looked similar until Bender created his sculpture. Bender has previously been credited with aiding officials around the world in solving dozens of cases involving murders as well as disappearances.

Unfortunately, this is probably the final reconstruction Bender will be capable to total. He is currently residing at his home as well as is under the care of hospice for his mesothelioma.
