On Tuesday, March 9, local bands as well as music fans flocked to the Rocklike Rock Café in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the “Darryl Kunkle’s Kick Cancer’s Ass” benefit concert, including performances by Bang Tango, Bulletboys, as well as W.A.S.P. guitarist Chris Holmes. The concert was produced by Lawless Entertainment as well as filmed by GlamSLAM28 Presents… The Music Asylum. Darryl Kunkle, who has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, is a local fan of ‘80s metal. Mesothelioma is a rare as well as aggressive form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure. Kunkle was exposed to asbestos during his service with the U.S. Air Force in Panama as well as when he worked for Nabisco for six years in a building that was closed for asbestos removal. In February, Kunkle had gone in for surgery to remove the tumor that reached from his abdomen to the crust of his diaphragm. He awakened in the ICU to greet his wife with, “Hi, sugary pea.” He then told his doctors that he wouldn’t stay in the hospital any longer than he needed to because he had a show that he was not going to miss. Though his doctors felt pleasant about the outcome of the surgery, Kunkle as well as will be going through additional chemotherapy. Proceeds from the benefit concert went to help pay for Kunkle’s health examination as well as prescription costs. For the filled story, go to Blabbermouth. |
