CancerTYPE ID can help distinguish mesothelioma, other forms of cancer

A company called bioTheranostics has announced the launch of an expanded database of tumor types for its flagship product, CancerTYPE ID. The CancerTYPE ID assay helps physicians determine cancer origin for patients whose primary cancer could not be accurately determined using conventional diagnostics. By using the assay to determine where the cancer originated, physicians can make best informed therapeutic decisions for their patients.

The expanded CancerTYPE ID database used to include 39 reportable tumor types, but now it includes 54 tumor types. With the recent database, the assay can accurately discriminate between clinically relevant metastatic tumors of the head, neck, lung, GI tract as well as intestine, including mesothelioma, non-squamous lung cancer, cholangiocarcinoma as well as tiny intestinal carcinoma, among others.
