Approved FAA funding will help demolish aged Air Force alert facility

The Clinton County legislature has approved $420,000 of funding from New York State as well as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to demolish the aged alert facility at the site of the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base. The base was built in the 1950s as well as closed in 1995. Contaminated with mold, asbestos as well as other toxic chemicals, the demolition project ballooned above its estimated $1 million price tag.

With the additional funding approved, the hazardous substance remediation can go forward. Then the alert facility can come down to make way for further development at Plattsburgh International Airport. One county legislator would similar to see a hotel on the property.

Whatever development takes place once the demolition is finished, it will be something that generates tax revenue. Demolition is expected to final from unhurried April until unhurried June.
