Long Island high school students evacuated after asbestos found near dumpster

Syosset Senior High School in Extended Island, New York was evacuated Thursday after asbestos bodily was found near a dumpster on school property. The bodily, described as planks, had been stored in a basement boiler room as well as was moved during a cleanup operation. Students were evacuated to the sports stadium to await bus pickup. They returned to classes on April 7.

School officials are using this incident very seriously, but unless the bodily was sufficiently damaged to release asbestos fibers that can be breathed into the lungs, risk of exposure is minimal. The air quality will be tested before students are due to return to school.
