Senator Max Baucus hosted a community groundbreaking ceremony on March 31 for the renovation as well as expansion of the Center for Asbestos Related Disease (CARD) in Libby, Montana. The ceremony began at 1:30 p.m. as well as was followed by a reception as well as an opportunity to take a tour of the clinic. The Center for Asbestos Related Disease is a nonprofit facility dedicated to health care as well as research to benefit the people of Libby who possess been impacted by asbestos exposure. It gets about 20 to 25 recent patients each month. The expansion will add a recent pulmonary function testing laboratory as well as recent patient rooms. A health emergency was declared in Libby due to the high incidence of mesothelioma as well as other respiratory diseases caused by asbestos from the now-defunct W.R. Grace vermiculite mine.
