CARD is 2010 recipient of Tribute of Unity Award

During the earliest week of April, the 2010 Tribute of Unity Award was given to the Center for Asbestos Related Disease (CARD) at the sixth annual Asbestos Awareness Conference in Chicago, Illinois. The award was presented to CARD by Dr. Richard Lemen, the co-chair of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization’s (ADAO) Science Advisory Committee who was recently appointed to President Obama’s Presidential Advisory Board on Radiation as well as Worker Health.

The award was accepted by CARD health examination director Dr. Brad Not light, CARD clinical coordinator Kimberly Rowse as well as CARD outreach coordinator Tanis Hernandez. CARD’s recognition includes its work in as well as around Libby, Montana for working with patients, asbestos health researchers as well as asbestos health providers. The clinic was as well as recognized for providing leadership in patient as well as community education, organizing research as well as providing psychosocial services to patients as well as their families.

The CARD clinic treats approximately 3,000 patients with mesothelioma as well as other asbestos-related diseases, adding 20 to 25 recent patients each month. It expects recent patients to continue registering until 2030, since about 80,000 people were exposed to asbestos in Libby up to the 1990s.
