Shaker building to make way for recent fitness as well as community center

For 166 years, Bethany Hall has been a testament to Shaker building skill. Built by the community from hand-cut timbers as well as handmade bricks fired onsite, the building was erected in 1844. Soon, the historic building will come down to make room for a recent fitness as well as community center to benefit the residents of Otterbein Retirement Existing Communities.

Asbestos remediation has already begun as well as is expected to take several months before bids are opened for demolition. By the end of the year, the aged building will be a memory. Every effort will be made to rescue historically significant pieces of the building, including cornerstones as well as bricks, which will be showcased in the recent building.
