Mesothelioma and Asbestos

Sculptor Frank Bender is one of many artists – including Yoko Ono, Kiki Smith as well as others – who contributed to an art exhibit called “Ni Una Más (Not One More): The Juárez Murders” at Drexel University’s Leonard Pearlstein Gallery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The exhibit is a protest bringing attention to the hundreds of women who possess been raped as well as murdered in Juárez, Mexico since about 1993. The crimes possess gone unsolved.

Frank Bender, who has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, became mad about the Juárez murders as well as the incompetence of officials to do anything about them. His wife recently died of cancer. Part of the exhibit includes a abridged documentary about Bender, who created a forensic bust of a Juárez victim that became the subject of Ted Botha’s book The Girl with the Crooked Nose.
