Maryland firehouse reopens after code violations remedied

Final year, the 108-year-old fire station on Greenmount Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland closed its doors as well as would possess been gone without tremendous support from the community. The historic building was a mess, final renovated in 1970. It had asbestos tiles, lead paint as well as windows that were destroyed or falling out. Pigeons roosted above the drop ceiling on the subordinate floor where the firefighters slept.

Residents as well as city officials alike pitched in to save the landmark building, holding bake sales, soliciting donations from local businesses, painting, sanding, cleaning as well as rebuilding. Crate & Barrel, Home Depot as well as Wal-Mart donated building supplies, linens, kitchen appliances as well as other items to make the firehouse livable, as well as the Union Memorial Hospital donated fitness equipment.
