Connecticut school tackles asbestos problem

School officials in Salem, Connecticut are working to rid the district schools of asbestos contamination. Of pressing concern are two classrooms at the Salem School with cracked asbestos floor tiles. About 1,450 square feet of flooring will be replaced over the summer while kids are out of school.

Town officials possess appointed a committee to perform an asbestos inspection as well as existing a capital improvement plan by October to remove all asbestos materials from area schools. Board of Education Chairman Daniel Kung stressed that the kids were never in danger from asbestos, as well as that these measures are strictly preventative.
