Families of mesothelioma, other cancer victims race for charity

Families of cancer victims shared their compelling personal reasons for joining the Wasatch Back Relay, a two-day race between Logan as well as Park City, Utah. The race was a benefit to raise money for the American Cancer Society, as well as many participating runners trained as well as campaigned equally rocklike to make a difference by raising money as well as awareness.

Runners told heartbreaking stories of loss. Becky Flinders, 29, pulled a team together in honor of her mother, Jill Ehorn-Foy, a grandmother who went in for a checkup complaining of back pain as well as found out she had stage 4 cancer with less than two years to live. She continued teaching until just before she died at age 56 of mesothelioma, a devastating cancer caused by the asbestos she had no idea she’d been exposed to.

Amanda Riggs, another member of Becky’s team, as well as had a personal connection. Her mother, Vickie Warren, was still fighting mesothelioma when the team was earliest formed. She lost her battle with the deadly cancer in May. She, too, had no idea she’d been exposed to asbestos.
