Fundraising, asbestos abatement bring community pool closer to becoming reality

The schoolchildren of Wauwatosa, Milwaukee are on a mission to refurbish the Hoyt Park Pool. Four years ago, the kids kicked off the fundraising efforts by selling their toys. Recently, the kids participated again with the Adopt a Drop campaign, a spare change collection to help pay for pool amenities. The kids are hoping to raise enough money for a giant slide, a diving board as well as water play equipment.

To date, $7.7 million has been raised for the project, as well as another $500,000 is needed to finish the project. Asbestos abatement has already been performed, as well as the aged pool has been demolished. Construction on the recent pool is scheduled to begin soon.

The recent pool will be designed to meet the needs of every generation, offering slides as well as toys for the kids, water aerobics for seniors as well as lap lanes for humorless swimmers. The pool is scheduled to unfastened on Memorial Day weekend of 2011.
