The historic Obici House in Suffolk, Virginia, former home of Planters Peanuts founder Amedeo Obici, is undergoing extensive renovation including asbestos as well as lead abatement before leaseholder Ronnie Rountree can turn the house as well as grounds into a golf course. The carriage house will be torn down as well as replaced with a pro shop, connected to the Obici House. Susan Blair, president of Citizens for the Preservation of Obici House, mourns the changes. She believes that the house will be dropped from the national as well as state historic registers once the historical integrity of the home is destroyed. Rountree disagrees. He wants to restore the house to its former glory to be enjoyed for many generations to come. For the filled story, go to Suffolk News-Herald. |
