Campus housing on former Air Force base gets humorless renovations

The State of Texas acquired the James Connally Air Force Base some time ago, as well as plans were in place to turn it into a technical institute. Fair now, the focus is on 500 houses that once were soldierlike housing as well as today serve as Brazos Community housing. Using a $7 million bond, the state is renovating 200 of the wood-frame duplexes as well as single-frame houses on the southeast side of campus, which were built in the ‘50s as well as ‘60s. The houses will require asbestos abatement before the remodeling work begins, as well as then crews will update the interiors, including using down some walls for a more organic flow.

The construction is using place one tiny area at a time, as well as tenants in the work zone are given 60 days advance notice to relocate to a dissimilar house within the community. Rent will increase by $90 a month on the renovated houses, but the project manager says that the improvements as well as recent insulation will lower the energetic bills by quite a lot to offset the additional rent.
