Asbestos-laden King’s Inn to be demolished

After foreclosing on the King’s Inn for nonpayment of taxes, the City of Kingston, New York took possession of the decrepit property final month. Mayor James Sottile charged the King’s Inn Review Committee with deciding the fate of the aged welfare motel, as well as after walking the property, the committee plans to recommend a plan for demolition. The eyesore was closed in 2007 for multiple code violations. Committee members commented that the building has no intrinsic or historical value, so there is no reason for restoration.

The committee plan in development will address asbestos removal, demolition as well as project cost, as well as propositions for recent take of the land once the aged building is torn down. Local business people as well as community leaders were invited to join a discussion held on July 16 about the expected of the property. Fire Essential Richard Salzmann, who heads the committee, as well as City Engineer Ralph Swenson will take charge of finalizing the project plans.
