Former Youngstown Sheet & Tube building comes down

Once the largest independently owned steel operation in the country, Youngstown Sheet & Tube closed its Brier Hill, Ohio operations in the unhurried 1970s. Now the building that headquartered the industrial company is coming down piece by piece, starting with the sandstone slab bearing the company name. Workers tore out the asbestos materials from inside the building earliest then began dismantling the walls.

Demolition of the nearly century aged building was part of an agreement between the city as well as V&M Star, which will take the land to expand the entrance to its recent facility. Funding for the project was provided via a state grant of $631,343.
