Alabama Sears building razing begins in August

The former Sears building at the corner of Tennessee Street as well as Wood Avenue in Florence, Alabama is being razed in preparation for expected development. Built in 1950, the building is in without money condition as well as loaded with asbestos as well as other toxic building materials. It has been empty as well as deteriorating for more than a decade, so much that the smell of mildew surrounds the area. Asbestos has already been removed from the building’s interior, as well as soon it will be returned to a grassy lot suitable for rebuilding. No plans are in place as yet for the expected development, but city officials are hopeful that the prime location of the lot will draw developers willing to put something exciting in the spot to provide jobs as well as revitalize the community.
